Coherence review: the first ten minutes tend to make people doze off

This movie I brushed twice, the first time after watching a lot of doubts, and the second time is almost a frame by frame brush, can not help but shout out loud.

The first time I watched it, the first ten minutes of the first ten minutes did not fast forward, survived the ramblings of the main characters. It was only when the conversation between the ex-girlfriend and the actor started that I realized there was something fishy about it, and step by step, I was pulled along by the suspense and followed the heroine as she gradually discovered the truth.

The ending is very puzzling and many questions linger in my mind: who broke the car window before? Who actually called Kevin? Where did the body go? Did the heroine’s plan work? And what happened while she was sleeping? In order to solve these doubts, I carefully second-skimmed and have a basic answer that can convince myself. To solve these doubts, the first thing that needs to be clarified is what kind of rules the world in the movie is running by.

What is certain now is that there are several basic settings around which the movie is built.
(1) the existence of countless parallel spaces. And these parallel spaces existed before the arrival of the comet.
(2) Under normal circumstances, parallel spaces exist independently and cannot be connected, as people living in any one space, do not know the existence of other parallel spaces, much less access to other parallel spaces.
(3) The arrival of the comet will open a door to connect countless parallel spaces together; the departure of the comet will close this door, and parallel spaces can no longer be connected before.
(4) This door is the dark area next to the house in the movie. The analogy to a door may not be very graphic, according to the film’s setting, it is more like a dome like a semicircle, covering the whole house, anyone, as long as through this semicircle, will go to any other parallel space.
(5) Anyone through the dome to another parallel space, there is no going back, because there are countless parallel spaces, the possibility of finding the original space is infinitely small. After clarifying the rules of the world in the film, we also need to know how the director wants to present this world to the audience.

The director from the beginning did not want a certain parallel world as the main, but a fair presentation of each parallel world, the use of the camera in the parallel world after the way to switch, to promote the progress of the plot, and this is precisely because each parallel world is too similar, so it is difficult to find, is a very superb set-up.

If the above setting is correct, then the first question is, when was the first time the crowd crossed the dome inside the movie? Our first feeling is that after the first power failure, the big Hugh and Spotted Mills went to borrow the phone when the two first crossed the dome. But if this is the case, it can not explain why before this dinner table, Mike and his ex-girlfriend bizarre conversation between (Mike misremembered his ex-girlfriend’s occupation, and his ex-girlfriend does not remember Mike acted in the TV series). So, the crowd must have crossed the first time before that. Then we can boldly assume that, in addition to Mike, Lee and the white-haired woman in the preparation of ingredients, the others before entering the door to really complete the first crossing.

And this can be verified from the heroine’s own experience. The film begins with a phone call between the heroine and her boyfriend, when the heroine drove to Mike and Lee’s home, when she was about to arrive at the destination and ready to park, the phone suddenly had no signal, the screen of the phone also cracked, and before that, the heroine’s last words to her boyfriend was, “I lost you”. Yes, the parking time, in fact, the heroine just drove into the dome, and completed the first crossing, into another parallel world. The same reason, after the heroine entered the room one after another, also came through the dome, so they must be from a different parallel space.

After the heroine, the next to enter the boyfriend Kevin and big Hugh, and then after that is the bald Mills and green tea ex-girlfriend; so plus the Mike couple and white head woman who were already in the house, the house at this time is respectively from the four parallel space people. It is because of the different parallel spaces in each person’s development trajectory is different, which has the dinner table between the actor Mike and his ex-girlfriend Laurie donkey talk. Here I explain why I said “the director from the beginning did not want a certain parallel world as the main, but fairly present each parallel world, using the camera to switch after the parallel worlds to drive the plot forward” it, which will have to brush themselves before and after the heroine entered the room that paragraph about ten minutes of footage. That episode seems boring, but in fact not only laid the groundwork for the back, but also through the display of many details to tell the audience the existence of parallel space.

Those ten minutes of footage, almost every switch of the camera switched a parallel space, because the dialogue and the plot is connected on, so we first look at it is difficult to find, however, there are several such details can identify the dialogue occurs in different spaces: (1) Mike cut something.
(1) Mike cut things will change: respectively, bread, white cheese, yellow cheese, and half is yellow cheese is generally white cheese, and avocado.
(2) how many days the white-haired woman has been abstaining: she herself has said 7 and 21 days respectively.
(3) whether LEE was in the room or the kitchen when LEE and the heroine said Skype.
(4) Kevin hugged the heroine twice after entering the door.

The latter will not be enumerated in detail, so many such details, so it can be determined that in this movie, has been talking about things that happen in many parallel spaces, because there are countless parallel spaces and countless possibilities, so we do not have to get serious to say that this movie in the end told a few.

As the plot unfolds, the heroine gradually discovers the role played by the dome, and she also experiences an unprecedented loneliness and despair. And when Kevin picked up his ex-girlfriend Laurie, the heroine may have suddenly remembered a certain space to their own extra tender that Kevin, desperate, she made a desperate choice.

She is like a lone ranger, countless times through the dome, wandering inside the countless possibilities, she saw countless sad and desperate themselves, witnessed a variety of absurd and horrible crowd, and finally came to a house of lights. Here everyone is happy, and she herself is happily snuggled in Kevin’s arms, happier still that she is the chief of the ballet. Next, she just needs to get rid of herself. Her battle plan was to turn off the electric switch first, break the window of the big Hugh’s car, and when the crowd went to check their respective vehicles, kill herself who was alone checking her vehicle and putting on the ring. Her battle plan answers the question, “Who broke the window?

If she was the one who broke the car window, it means that the second power failure in the house and the broken car window in the previous episode could have been because she wanted to lure people out of the room so as to commit murder and complete the plan to replace them, that is, the heroine’s plan to murder herself was actually revealed to us sideways in the movie. There is another possibility that the heroine is not the only one who has this idea, the white haired woman who was caught cheating, her husband’s alcoholic LEE, all have similar reasons and want to find a better world.

And they may also implement similar plans, so that there may be countless people with murderous intent wandering between the domes, looking for a glimmer of hope. So all the settings of the movie up to this point can explain some of the weird things that happened after that comet came 100 years ago, such as people will lose their memories, forget the way, and go back to the wrong home, all because crossing to another space naturally will not have the memory of that space.

The story about the dead coming back to life 100 years ago can provide some clues to the end of the heroine after murdering herself. 100 years ago, a woman obviously killed her husband, and her husband came back to life in front of her, so the woman went to the police.
