A heart-warming story about the companionship and nurturing warmth between humans and animals that heals a cold body and warms a kind heart in winter.
A father, a lover of adventure, finds a lifelong passion and travels the world to discover a warm species of penguin that comes from the ice and mails it to his son Popper’s home. “The six penguins that ‘fall from the sky’ turn Popper’s life upside down in a life of high mental and stress levels.
Mr Popper has to make changes in order to look after the sudden arrival of the penguins, who seem completely ‘out of place’ in modern life. And it is not only the penguins who grow up during this change, but also Popper. From his initial dislike of the penguins and their expulsion from the house to playing with them in a home filled with ‘ice and snow’, the penguins have become better behaved thanks to Mr Popper’s genuine companionship.
However, when he is discovered to be keeping penguins in his home, ‘scammers’ posing as professional zoo penguin keepers repeatedly visit the house to ‘coax’ Popper into giving them up, and eventually Mr Popper is forced to hand over his beloved penguins, to whom he has developed a strong bond. When the deception is exposed and the penguins are faced with the dilemma of choosing between deep-sea bait and Mr. Popper, the penguins choose Popper without hesitation, choosing the one they have given their hearts to day and night, choosing the one they first saw.
In the chase of the conmen, Captain Penguin, who was lost due to overwhelming numbers, is pursued by the conmen. I think that at the moment of take-off, his desire to return to his master’s arms made him break through the impossible challenge, and he was equally happy between the challenge of re-embracing his master and the challenge of flying.
Mr Popper not only gains the heart of six penguins on this unique journey, but more precious still, he regains the ability to cherish and enjoy happiness with each other and his family.
In the course of his time with the penguins, Mr Popper comes to realise that his father, who was rarely around him as a child because of his work, was full of incomprehension and regret, but now he has become a man like his father, lacking sufficient love and companionship for his partner and his children because of the pressure of work. In his letter to him, the father expresses his remorse and remorse for not being able to give his son a good childhood, and hopes that he will cherish the present moment, the time he has with his family, and give them enough care.
At the end of the film, Mr. Popper’s family travels to Antarctica, the home of the penguins, to visit their old friend, and this is where Popper finally comes to terms with his father – to appreciate the true meaning of family.
